BNHP LOGO
Vanua Bouma
The park logo depicts some of the special natural features of this place, interwoven with a strong human element. Together these make up what is known as the vanua Bouma – the land and the people. The Silktail (central bird in logo) and the Fiji flying fox (Bat, top right in logo) are endemic to Taveuni. The palm alsmithia sp., left of the Silktail, is rare, while Dakua trees are now a scarce “gaint” of the rainforest (cone pattern is represented at the lower centre of the Tapa). The other Tapa elements are waterfalls, the hibiscus flower (vau), and coconut fronds.
Specifically for the purposes of promoting the Bouma National Heritage Park, American artist Jessica Coleberger volunteered to hand painted the BNHP logo onto a piece of "Tapa", a traditional cloth, donated from the Lavena women's group (Lomasoli).
Thank you Jessy.
